N is for Nieces and Nephews -- Day 14 of the "A to Z Blogging Challenge"

This one goes back to family again. As you know if you follow my blog, I come from a large family. I am the fifth, and last, child in my family and am considerably younger than my siblings. I became an aunt at age three and again at six, then regularly thereafter. Since i was so close to my nieces' and nephews' age, I often felt more like I was their sister than their aunt. I was, and still am, fiercely protective of them if I feel someone wishes them harm. By the time I was 18 I had 14 nieces and nephews. I hope they all feel they can depend on me for emotional support any time they need it. I don't even know how many grandnieces and grandnephews I have, and I'm already on great-grands.

Did I mention that I come from a large family?

  1. Cool! I like large families even though I didn't come from a large family! I tell me three kids they have to give me twelve grandkids - each. We'll see if they'll comply with my wishes. :)

  2. Yeah, one part of my dad's family is like that. I have cousins that are almost my mom's age and others that could have been my children. In fact, I've started to lose track of exactly who fits where.

  3. Wow. That's a lot of nieces and nephews! I'm the oldest of 4 and there's only one nephew so far. My sister is almost 18. She better make me wait awhile!

  4. I'm envious...my own family is very small! I always imagined myself surrounded by grandchildren, and tons of nieces and nephews, but it simply hasn't worked out that way. However, as friends are family too, I am far from bereft...:)

  5. I have an aunt who was born after I was, believe it or not. So I can relate to the whole niece/nephew/aunt/uncle confusion thing going on here. Pleasure to meet you via the A-Z Challenge!
